In this self-guided cycling tour, you will cycle 316 km over a 7-day journey, surrounded by beautiful and diverse landscapes. The origin of the name Portugal comes from the city of Porto, dating back to around 200 BC, when it was known as Portus Cale. Today, Porto is world-famous for its Port wine, iconic bridges, contemporary and historic architecture, and its magnificent UNESCO World Heritage historic centre. Enjoy your first night exploring this beautiful and ancient city and, of course, tasting a traditional Port Wine.
Riding mainly along cycle paths and quiet secondary roads, the carefully selected routes lead you to stunning beaches, natural landscapes, and traditional villages where ancient customs and traditions still thrive.
The beginning of your journey, marked along the banks of the Douro River and the northwest coast of Portugal, offers unforgettable moments from the very first day. Secondary roads and cycle tracks guide you along the coastline to the city of Ovar, known as the City Museum of Tiles. Cycling south beside the impressive Aveiro Lagoon, the region’s traditional boats — the moliceiros — welcome you to the charming city of Aveiro.
Pedalling through rich natural scenery, you continue towards Figueira da Foz, enjoying spectacular views of the Atlantic coast. Passing through small villages along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to taste traditional Portuguese gastronomy and connect with the welcoming local communities. Mostly along cycle tracks, the final stage leads you to Nazaré, a coastal village with ancient roots in fishing traditions.
The fascinating views of Portugal’s northwest coast, combined with beautiful rivers and lagoons, traditional villages and historic towns—mostly explored via cycle paths and peaceful secondary roads—together with an excellent selection of fresh seafood and authentic Portuguese cuisine, make this one of the most memorable cycling experiences in Portugal that you will not want to miss.
