On this scenic cycling tour, you will follow the Garonne canal, the extension of the Canal du Midi that connects Toulouse to the Mediterranean Sea. This section is called the “Canal des Deux Mers” (the canal of the two seas), connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea: it’s a fantastic route that passes by vineyards and medieval villages, along the Garonne River between two of France’s finest cities; Bordeaux and Toulouse. You will venture across beautiful towns and cultural sites while enjoying the world-renowned cuisine of the region!

Embarking from Bordeaux, this delightful journey unfolds along a "Voie Vertes" greenway cycling route, spanning 50km to Sauveterre de Guyenne, then continues 26km through scenic small roads to La Réole, concluding with a picturesque ride along the Garonne canal until reaching Toulouse.

This flat itinerary can be done in both ways. You can choose the route that is more practical for your access.

  • Unforgettable cultural sites and Unesco World Heritage sites
  • Beautiful landscapes and vineyards in the south of France
  • A mostly flat relaxing easy to moderate cycling itinerary
  • Charming guesthouses and hotels
  • French cuisine and wine

The Green Line and the Garonne Canal - 6 nights | 5 stages

Travel Dates 2026

Daily from of April 10th to October 15th

Day 1 - Arrival in Bordeaux

You begin your journey at your arrival in Bordeaux and check-in at your hotel. We recommend spending the day visiting Bordeaux and its many historical and cultural sites.

Overnight in a 4* B&B.

Day 2 - Bordeaux - Camiran (63 km)

The path is entirely on a cycle lane and on the green line named “Roger Lapébie” after the famous cyclist, winner of the Tour de France in 1937. You will cycle through the medieval village of Sauveterre de Guyenne, a beautiful historical town founded in 1281 with four gates and fortified walls. It lies within the largest wine production region of Bordeaux, Entre Deux Mers (AOC).

Half-board in a guest-house in Camiran with swimming pool.

Day 3 - Camiran – Le Mas d’Agenais (42 km)

Embark on this stage from Camiran to la Réole by quiet roads.
After that, you will reach the scenic landscaped lined cycle path of the Garonne canal. Here you will follow the relaxing path along this historic canal dating back the mid-19th century until reaching Le Mas d’Agenais.

B&B in a guest-house (4*, a charming place at Thomas’s, a local artist), former “Mas” with a pond).

Day 4 - Le Mas d’Agenais - Sérignac sur Garonne (37 Km)

At the Mas d’Agenais, don’t miss the visit of the beautiful roman church. Continue along the green canal where you will have plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the views. You will pass by the quaint town of Damezan, founded in 1259. The rest of the day continues along the canal. You can expect a calm and gentle ride until the village of Sérignac.

Overnight in B&B in a 3* hotel.

Day 5 - Serignac – Moissac (55 Km)

As you continue along the Garonne Canal, you will pass by the superb bridge of Pont Canal d’Agen with a stop in the historical city centre of Agen. The day continues along the canal until Moissac, centre of roman art, on the Santiago de Compostella route. The abbey and the cloister are part of the UNESCO world’s heritage. Moissac’s landscape is dominated with orchards and vineyards of the famous Chasselas. This is the place where the Tarna and the Garonne meet.

Overnight in B&B in a 3* hotel.

Day 6 - Moissac – Toulouse (67 Km)

The Garonne Canal will lead you on your final leg into the heart of Toulouse (“La Ville Rose”, The Pink City). If you have a bike rental, you will leave your bike in Toulouse.

Overnight in B&B in a 4* hotel.

Day 7 - Toulouse & departure

End of the tour after breakfast and checking out of the hotel. We recommend an individual visit of Toulouse: A city with unique architecture made of pinkish terracotta bricks, which earned it the nickname la Ville Rose ("the Pink City"). Toulouse counts two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Canal du Midi (designated in 1996 and shared with other cities), and the Basilica of St. Sernin, the largest remaining Romanesque building in Europe, designated in 1998 because of its significance to the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route.

NOTE: Occasionally, adjustments to the planned itinerary may be necessary. This could stem from trip logistics (such as fully booked accommodations, trail closures, or adverse weather conditions, etc.). It's important to understand that these modifications are always implemented with your best interests in mind, prioritizing your safety and comfort.

Hotel Classification:

3* Hotel in Moissac and in Sérignac; 4* Hotel Bordeaux and in Toulouse; Guesthouses in Camiran and Le Mas d’Agenais.

In France, more and more hotels and guest houses are refusing to take part in the star-rating system, even establishments which were classified a year or two ago are now choosing to not take part. This doesn’t mean that they are of a lesser quality, in fact far from it. If we indicate that an accommodation is ‘3-star or equivalent to’ this means that the establishment has chosen not to receive an official classification, but we believe the level of comfort provided is equal to that of a 3-star establishment.
