On this self-guided cycling holiday in Portugal, you will ride 203 km over a 5-day itinerary, surrounded by beautiful and ever-changing landscapes. The journey begins in Porto, a city deeply connected to the origins of Portugal itself. As early as circa 200 BC, Porto was known as Portus Cale, the name that later gave rise to Portugal. Today, Porto is world-famous for its Port Wine, iconic bridges, contemporary and ancient architecture, and its magnificent UNESCO World Heritage historic centre. Enjoy your first night exploring this vibrant city and, of course, tasting a traditional glass of Port wine.

Following well-maintained cycle tracks and quiet secondary roads, the carefully selected routes lead you to beautiful beaches, natural landscapes and traditional villages where ancient customs are still alive. The start of your cycling journey along the banks of the Douro River and the northwest coast of Portugal offers unforgettable moments right from the beginning.

Riding south along peaceful coastal routes, you reach Ovar, known as the City Museum of Tiles, before continuing through the stunning Aveiro Lagoon. Here, the traditional regional boats, the famous moliceiros, welcome you to the charming city of Aveiro, often called the “Venice of Portugal”. Cycling through natural landscapes, the route continues towards Figueira da Foz, revealing spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, you pass through small villages where you can experience authentic Portuguese gastronomy and enjoy warm interactions with local communities.

The fascinating views of the northwest coast, combined with beautiful rivers and lagoons, traditional villages and historic towns, explored mostly via cycle paths and low-traffic roads, and complemented by an excellent selection of fresh seafood and traditional Portuguese cuisine, make this one of the most memorable cycling experiences in Portugal—an experience you truly won’t want to miss.

Crossing by the famous bridge "D. Luis I" we cycle to Vila Nova de Gaia where there are plenty of caves of producers of Port wine. Take some time to explore the area and admire the view to the city of Porto from the other side of the river. The way to Espinho is marked by the cycle tracks and by the gorgeous views to the Atlantic Ocean. We highlight the visit to the chapel "Senhor da Pedra", built on a rock by the sea in 1686.
