Ria Formosa Natural Park is located in the Algarve, southern Portugal. It is a designated Natural Park of over 170 km2, a stopping place for hundreds of different birds and one of the Seven Nature Wonders of Portugal. Much of its area corresponds to its lagoon system of barrier islands that communicates with the ocean through six inlets. It extends over 60km and has its maximum width next to the city of Faro (about 6 km).
The bike tour starts in Quinta do Lago and goes straight to the Ria Formosa Natural Park, where you can enjoy a ride close by to the lagoon system and see different types of birds (as the Flamingo, Purple Swamphen, Kingfisher, Grey Heron, Little Egret, Stork and others) and other animals (as Chameleon, Turtle, Uca Tangeri crab and others) in their natural habitat. The tour passes through Faro Island, a typical fisherman village. Here you can see the inlet, between Faro Island and the Desert Island, which allows the ocean entering in the lagoon system. The third part of the tour goes by the Saltpans of Ludo and the roman ruins that remains in this area.
A specialized guide will accompany you, show you the nicest spots and explain what you’re observing and the surroundings.
In this bike tour you have the opportunity to observe the beautiful wild life of the natural park while enjoying a pleasant ride of bicycle. Certainly a great highlight to your holidays!
