Itinerary

ATLANTIC ROUTE Porto to Lisbon - 15 nights | 14 stages

 

Day 1 – Arrival in Porto

Welcome to Porto, a city of vibrant energy and charm. Stroll along the riverside, explore the narrow streets of Ribeira, and taste a glass of the world-famous Port wine while enjoying the sunset over the Douro River.

 

Day 2 – Porto to Espinho (37 km)

Leave the city behind and follow the coastline south. Enjoy easy cycling paths beside the sea, passing sandy beaches and small fishing boats. Espinho welcomes you with its traditional fish market and relaxed seaside atmosphere.

 

Day 3 – Espinho to Ovar (30 km)

Ride through pine forests and dunes, with the ocean always nearby. Ovar, known for its colourful tiled houses and delicious “Pão de Ló,” offers a genuine taste of local life along the coast.

 

Day 4 – Ovar to Aveiro (49 km + ferry)

Follow quiet coastal roads to the Ria de Aveiro, a lagoon rich in wildlife. Take a short ferry crossing and reach Aveiro, the “Venice of Portugal,” famous for its canals, Art Nouveau façades, and the sweet ovos moles.

 

Day 5 – Aveiro to Praia de Mira (38 km)

Cycle through the peaceful landscapes of the Aveiro Lagoon and pine woods until you reach Praia de Mira, a picturesque fishing village with colourful wooden boats and long sandy beaches.

 

Day 6 – Praia de Mira to Figueira da Foz (49 km)

The route continues along natural dunes and coastal forests to the lively town of Figueira da Foz. Enjoy its wide beaches, elegant promenade, and delicious seafood overlooking the ocean.

 

Day 7 – Figueira da Foz to Praia da Vieira (72 km)

Ride across the Mondego River and through quiet countryside and forests. Praia da Vieira is a traditional fishing village where colourful boats line the shore and the rhythm of the sea sets the mood.

 

Day 8 – São Pedro de Moel to Nazaré (41 km)

Enjoy one of the most scenic coastal rides of the journey. The route follows dramatic cliffs and pinewoods to Nazaré, a charming seaside town world-famous for its giant waves and authentic maritime traditions.

 

Day 9 – Nazaré to Óbidos (50 km)

From the coast, head inland through rural landscapes and peaceful farmland. End the day in Óbidos, a beautifully preserved medieval village encircled by ancient walls, one of Portugal’s most enchanting places.

 

Day 10 – Óbidos to Peniche (49 km)

Ride towards the ocean again and discover Peniche, a lively fishing port surrounded by sea on three sides. Don’t miss the stunning views over the Berlengas Islands Nature Reserve from Cabo Carvoeiro.

 

Day 11 – Peniche to Santa Cruz (49 km)

Pedal along scenic coastal cliffs and golden beaches, through Baleal and the peaceful bay of Consolação. Santa Cruz welcomes you with its wide sandy beach and breathtaking sunset views.

 

Day 12 – Santa Cruz to Ericeira (38 km)

Cycle past small villages and farmlands until you reach Ericeira, a picturesque town known for its surf culture, cobbled streets, and fresh seafood. Enjoy the relaxed coastal vibe and ocean views.

 

Day 13 – Ericeira to Azenhas do Mar (34 km)

Today’s ride offers one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline, with cliffs and hidden coves. Azenhas do Mar is a postcard-perfect village perched above the sea, with its natural pool and spectacular scenery.

 

Day 14 – Azenhas do Mar to Cascais (43 km)

Continue south through Sintra’s dramatic coastline, passing Cabo da Roca,  the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Arrive in Cascais, an elegant seaside town known for its charm, beaches, and lively atmosphere.

 

Day 15 – Cascais to Lisbon (42 km)

Follow the scenic route along the Tagus estuary. Cycle through coastal paths, passing the Belém Tower and the Discoveries Monument, before reaching the vibrant city of Lisbon, the perfect ending to your Atlantic adventure.

 

Day 16 – Departure

Take time to explore Lisbon’s historic neighbourhoods or simply relax in one of its sunny terraces. End your journey full of memories of Portugal’s coast, people, and timeless charm.
