Walking Algarve Secrets - 7 nights | 6 stages

 

Day 1 - Arrival to Sagres

Arrival to the hotel in Sagres, place where you will begin the journey. Covered by the Alentejano Southwest natural park and the Vicentina coast, the Saint Vicent Cape is the further western point of Europe.

 

Day 2 - Costa Vicentina (17.50 km)

We start our walking in Costa Vicentina Natural Park, a wild place where nature and history combine, creating impressive landscapes. This hike takes us from the mountains to the Atlantic West Coast, experiencing its great diversity of the habitats with high biodiversity of flora and fauna.

 

Day 3 - Serra de Monchique (11.50 km)

From the majestic landscape of the Atlantic Ocean, we enter in the Monchique Mountains, a superb walk, always accompanied by stunning views and monumental trees. A land of wooded hills, fragrant orchards and crystal clear springs. Often nicknamed as the "Algarve garden" for its luxuriant landscape of rolling hills, dense forests and pure rivers.

 

Day 4 - Barrocal (14.50 km)

We meet the Barrocal, the transition zone between the coast and the mountains, covered with orange groves and fig, carob and almond trees, is for that reason known as Beira-Serra and the main supplier of the agricultural products of the Algarve. The fruity and sweet aromas are a constant and can be observed in each own time the beauty of the blooming orchards and almond blossom.

 

Day 5 - Ria Formosa (15.00 km)

By the sea we walk in the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal. This Natural Park is characterized by the presence of sandy coastal dunes that protects a wide lagoon area that stretches along the coast from Ancão to Castro Marim. The combination of sweet water river with the tide of the estuary and salt marshes creates an idyllic and impressive landscape of dunes, islands and unique waterways, which is a natural refuge for life of wild birds.

 

Day 6 - Serra do Caldeirão (19.75 km)

We walk to the mountains of Caldeirão, area that connects Algarve to the Alentejo region; these hills also called the "other Algarve" by their genuine people, by customs and traditional arts that last, for its landscapes with small villages of whitewashed houses, farm animals, by fruit and cork trees. This walk takes us to ancient times where life happens slowly.

 

Day 7 - Baixo Guadiana (24.00 km)

We continue out to meet ancient traces of human occupation, in Alcoutim, where Portugal is bordered by Spain through the emblematic river Guadiana. In this hike we can enjoy the unique and tranquil beauty of the natural Algarve; know the historical and cultural heritage; experience the customs and the traditional handicraft. The river Guadiana, always present, performing ancient trade routes and vast wealth shows us beautiful vessels coming from all over the world that there are waiting until new directions.

 

Day 8 - Return

Return home or stay a few more extra nights in the unique region of the Algarve.
