In The Hague you have the lovely city centre and the famous Binnenhof with the Prime Minister‘s residence to discover. The Parliament is housed in the Binnenhof, and with a bit of luck you might spot a well-known host or Member of parliament. Visiting the International Court of justice is also possible. The International Court of Justice is the most important legal body within the United Nations. The Court is located in the Peace Palace. Being located by the sea, The Hague is also attractive for holidaymakers. You can visit the nearby spa resorts of Scheveningen and Kijkduin by bike along the extensive sandy North Sea coast.

Day 1 - Make your own way
Arrival from 14.00 at the hotel, check in. Collect bikes if booked. You can get straight away on with discovering the city by bike, having a drink on a café terrace, shopping in the city centre, or taking in the beach.
Day 2 - Beach – Hook of Holland – Nieuwe Waterway (Cycling 50 km / 31 miles)
Today you will be cycling along the coast to Hook of Holland, the coastal location from where ships depart the mainland from Rotterdam. The cycle path goes along the ‘Nieuwe Waterway’, the canal linking the harbour of Rotterdam with the North Sea. From ‘Nieuwe Waterway’ you cycle through polders over winding dykes and past windmills back to your hotel.
Day 3 - Beach with spa resorts Scheveningen and Kijkduin (Cycling 46 km / 29 miles)
The Hague is the coastal city with the spa resorts Scheveningen and Kijkduin. Scheveningen with its pier and promenade along the beach are great for walking. Kijkduin is a rather more tranquil spa resort with a wide beach for sunbathing and taking a dip.
Day 4 - The Hague City Tour (Cycling 23 km / 15 miles)
A comfortable cycle tour through The Hague city centre is on the programme for today. First up is the Binnenhof, a building complex in the centre of the city centre where the Dutch Parliament has sat since 1446. ‘Het Torentje’ is the official office of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Then you will visit the Mauritshuis Museum. There you will see unique masterpieces by the Dutch painters of the Golden Age, such as Vermeer’s ‚Girl a Pearl Earirng’, one of the largest and most significant collections in the World. Then continue by bike to the Peace Palace, the seat of the International Court of Justice. The Visitor Centre has a permanent exhibition about the history of the peace movement and the institutions seated there. After all of today’s culture, there is still fun to be had staying in the city with a drink on one of the many café terraces or a little shopping in the city centre.
Day 5 - Leiden (Cycling 48 km / 30 miles)
Today’s destination is the town of Leiden across dykes along small lakes. Here you will be cycling through a bustling historic town with plenty of cultural highlights. But your evening meal on a terrace with everything going on around you is also one of your options. You will cycle back to the hotel through the green landscape along the ‘Kager Plassen’, a small system of lakes and through wealthy Wassenaar, a suburb of The Hague.
The town has a rich history, lots of museums, theatres and a pleasant town centre. The town has the university to thank for its prosperity. It was founded by William of Orange after Leiden had been heavily besieged by the Spanish. Leiden is now a vibrant student town. Leiden is also known as a town of knowledge with several museums such as the National Museum of Ethnology, the National Museum of Antiquities, the ‘Naturalis’ (Natural History Museum) and the Boerhaave Museum with its natural and medical history collection. Many of these museums have direct ties with the university, just like Leiden Observatory and the Botanical Gardens (Hortus Botanicus)
Day 6 - Rotterdam (Cycling 46 km / 29 miles)
Today you will be cycling to Rotterdam, the largest port city in the world. The route from Rijswijk via Delft takes you through countryside towards the sprawling metropolis. Discover the diversity of Rotterdam by bike. On through the centre to the boulevard along Nieuwe Maas. The town of Schiedam, known for its many distilleries, comes into sight with the fresh breeze along the river. Leaving the dyke along Nieuwe Maas, you first cycle through the centre of Schiedam and then over the dykes along the waterway and through the green polders back to Delft and your hotel in Rijswijk.
Rotterdam is a city with lots of history. A port city with vibrant nightlife, a chic shopping area, and a trendy artist’s quarter. Rotterdam is also the Netherlands’s most architecturally significant with a constantly changing skyline. The centre and its surroundings have opportunities for shopping, great food, and plenty of museums and attractions. The Euromast, a trip round the port, the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, the romantic quarter of Delfshaven, the Cube houses and the Van Nelle Factory are only some of the options for visiting.
Day 7 - Delft (Cycling 34 km / 22 miles)
Today’s stretch takes you cycling along the Driemanspolder to the dyke where the remains of windmills are reminders of a time when the polders still had to pumped dry. Cycling through Nootdorp takes you to today’s destination, the historic town of Delft, a bustling student town with a particularly lovely old town, romantic green ‘hofjes’, and many small canals. Here you take your time discovering the town. You cycle back to your hotel in Rijswijk through the countryside around Delft.
Delft and the Dutch Royal Family are inextricably linked with each other. Since William of Orange, nearly all members have been buried in the Nieuwe Kerk burial chambers. Nieuwe Kerk in Delft is in the centre of the town. At 108.75 metres, the spire is the highest in the Netherlands after the cathedral tower in Utrecht. The church is also known for the grave of William of Orange.
If you find the route too demanding or want to save time, just take a train to Rijswijk station. There are numerous ways of taking the train on the route between Rotterdam, Schiedam, Delft and Rijswijk. You can also take the train from Leiden to your hotel in Rijswijk. Rijswijk railway station is only a few minutes walk from the hotel. Please note: All cycling distances stated above are approximate only.
Day 8 - Return
Departure after breakfast or extention days.
The standard travel package includes accommodation with breakfast. When booking half board you will receive 2 x a 3-course-dinner.
Level 1 (On a scale of 1 to 5) Easy tour on flat cycle tracks and minor roads. The only ascents are small and short and are found only in the area of the dykes and bridges. Based on the cycling map you can shorten or extend the tours as you wish.
Arrival and parking:
Arriving by train: By train / tram to Rijswijk station. The Hotel is located 100 meters from the tram station.
Arrival by car / parking: Parking at the hotel (fee, about € 9,– per day).

The rental bikes are high quality women’s or men’s bikes with waterproof luggage bags, luggage rack, 27 gears, derailleur and rim brakes (no coaster brake), lighting front and rear, hub dynamo and permanently mounted lock.
