Star tour of Arnhem – Forest . Heath . the Rhine

Travel Dates 2019

Daily from May 15 – Aug 31, 2019

Day 1 - Make your own way

Arrival from 14.00 at the hotel, check in. Collect bikes if booked. You can get to the town on foot or by bike, enjoy a drink on a café terrace, visit the bustling Korenmarkt, take in the view over the Rhine, and look for a restaurant for your evening meal (if you have not booked half board).

Day 2 - Tour around Arnhem (Cycling 16 km / 10 miles)

Through Sonsbeek Park, along the Rhine and through the city of Arnhem there is always the opportunity of taking a break in the peace and quiet of nature or experiencing culture, fashion and business in the city. This is a relaxing day through the city and the immediate surroundings, almost always along cycle routes separated from traffic.

Day 3 - Pannerdense Kanal / Fort Pannerden (Cycling 46 km / 29 miles)

This cycle excursion allows you to discover the riverscape of the Betuwe. Over the Rhine, cycle along the Pannerdenkanals to the German border, where the Rhine also reaches the border. Here you can visit the former ‘Fort Pannerden’. A ferry takes you to the other side where you then cycle along the winding IJssel back to Arnheim.

Day 4 - Along the Veluwe and the Rhine (Cycling 35 km / 22 miles)

Here you cycle along the Rhine towards the small university town of Wageningen. Alternatively, along the river and through the countryside on the edge of the Veluwe. Here you can also enjoy nature and the countryside. Cycle past Schloss Doorwerth now a hotel.

The ferry in Wageningen takes you to the south bank of the Rhine where you can cycle along the dykes and flood plains back through characteristic villages to Arnheim.

Day 5 - Along the IJssel, the Posbank and the ‘Nationalpark Veluwezoom’ (Cycling 47 km / 30 miles)

This route is one of the tour‘s highlights and always follows the IJssel through the beautiful riverscape. The dykes lead along the bank, and then you pass through towns giving you plenty of feeling of a bygone age when the ‚rich and famous‘ settled here. Cycle back through ‚Veluwezoom‘ Park with its heathland and shaded woodland tracks. Sonsbeek takes you to your hotel in town.

Day 6 - ‘Hoge Veluwe’ Park and ‘Kröller-Möller Museum’ (Cycling 25 km / 16 miles)

This route takes you to ‘Hoge Veluwe’ with the famous Kröller-Mu?ller Museum. The park with its moors, sand dunes and woods is characteristic of the countryside along the Veluwe. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet of a traffic-free park without traffic, and good cycle paths wind their way through the diverse countryside of the park. A visit to the Kröller-Mu?ller Museum is a cultural highpoint. You can extend the route depending on the cycle route that you choose through the park. At the end of the day, cycle back through the green surroundings north of Arnhem to your hotel.

Day 7 - The city of Nijmegen, Waal and riverscape (Cycling 44 km / 28 miles)

Through the unique riverscape, cycle over the Bemmel into the city of Nijmegen. This university town, once settled by the Romans, lies on the Waal, a busy waterway for boats to and from Germany. You can take in the view of the water along the boulevard on the river. Nijmegen has numerous shopping opportunities and a lively cultural scene. Cycle along the Rhine back to Arnheim at the Waal and via the town of Elst.
